Shuttle Bus Fire On I-395 This Morning

An unoccupied airport shuttle bus caught fire heading south on I-395 this morning, resulting in lane closures and delays for commuters.

The Alexandria Fire Department received reports at 8:03 a.m. of a vehicle on fire on the right shoulder of I-395 between Duke Street and Edsel Road, and officials say that by the time they arrived the entire bus was on fire. (They received quite a few calls from concerned drivers calling 911.)

Only the left lane was open during this time, due to the smoke and the equipment, and it took until approximately 8:30 a.m. to clear up the fire. Officials do not know where the shuttle was heading.
