The Week Ahead

As part of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project, weather permitting, there will be a complete overnight closure of Telegraph Road and associated ramps in the area of the Capital Beltway Interstate 95/495 on Tuesday, October 13 between 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning for bridge construction. Motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes to avoid expected delays.
Traffic will be halted in both directions on Telegraph Road between Duke Street and Huntington Avenue for concrete bridge deck pouring. All associated ramps to and from the Capital Beltway I-95/495 South to Telegraph Road will be closed. Motorists traveling from the Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) into the Eisenhower Valley will be able to use the Pershing Avenue exit.
The detours for northbound and southbound Telegraph Road is as follows:
Northbound: Huntington Avenue East to U.S. Route 1 North to Duke Street West.
Southbound: Duke Street East to U.S. Route 1 South to Huntington Avenue West to Telegraph Road South.

As the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project continues, the following lane closures are planned this week:
I-66 West Night Work
When: Thursday, Oct. 15, 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What: Two right through lanes closed
Where: I-66 west, from 3000 feet east of Great Falls Street to Dulles Connector Road (Route 267)
Why: Adjusting concrete barrier

Leesburg Pike (Route 7) East Day Work
When: Tuesday, Oct. 13, noon to 3:30 p.m.,Wed. and Thursday, Oct. 14-15, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Friday, Oct. 16, 9:30 a.m. to noon
What: Left lane closed
Where: Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east, from Gosnell Road to the Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) overpass
Why: Grading, stone placement, paving, striping and median work
When: Monday through Friday, Oct. 12-16, 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What: Two lanes closed

In addition, closures will continue in several sections of the service roads along Leesburg Pike (Route 7) and the Dulles Toll Road. Motorists should stay alert and be prepared to alter their travel on these service roads. Access to all businesses will be maintained throughout the work periods.
There also will be occasional lane closures along the Dulles International Airport Access Highway and the Dulles Toll Road. Motorists should stay alert and be prepared to alter their travel along these roads.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is adding a fourth general-purpose lane to I-95 in each direction from Route 123 just before the Occoquan River to the Fairfax County Parkway to improve traffic flow to and from the Springfield Interchange. Construction of the six-mile widening project began in early 2008 and will be completed by late fall 2011.
Weather permitting; the follow lane closures are scheduled:
I-95 North Night Work
When: Monday, 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
What: Two lanes closed
Where: I-95 north, from the Route 1 on-ramp to the Pohick Road overpass
Why: Milling and overlay asphalt pavement
Police: Onsite for motorist safety
When: Tuesday, 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday is the backup night.
What: Ramp closed.
Where: I-95 north ramp to Exit 163, Lorton Road (Route 642)
Why: Milling and overlay asphalt pavement
I-95 North Day Work
When: Tuesday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
What: Single lane closed
Where: I-95 north from Exit 160, Gordon Boulevard (Route 123) to one mile south of Exit 166, Fairfax County Parkway (Route 7100)
Why: Grading, bridge and wall work
I-95 South Day Work
When: Tuesday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What: Right lane closed Where: I-95 south from Exit 166, Fairfax County Parkway (Route 7100) to Exit 160, Gordon Boulevard (Route 123)
Why: Bridge work, clearing and grubbing
I-95 HOV Day Work
When: Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 13-14, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
What: Single lane closed Where: I-95 HOV from Exit 163, Lorton Road (Route 642) to Exit 160, Gordon Boulevard (Route 123)
Why: Removing barrier Lorton Road (Route 642) East and West Day Work
When: Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
What: Alternating lane closed
Where: Lorton Road (Route 642) east and west from Gunston Cove Road to Silverbrook Road
Why: Repaving, bridge work and barrier installation
Route 1 South Day Work
The following lane closures are related to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) activities including the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.
When: Wednesday and Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
What: Right lane closed
Where: Route 1 south just past the Gunston Road overpass
Why: Soil test borings
I-495 HOT Lanes Closures
I-495 South at I-66
Motorists can expect the ramp from I-66 west ramp to I-495 south to close from midnight to 5 a.m. Sunday and Monday for bridge deck work. Detours will be in place.
