Delays building for Amtrak

Update (1;05 p.m.): Amtrak is reporting 30 to 60 minutes delays on the corridor between Washington and Boston, spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.

Amtrak was reporting greater delays of more than two hours on long-distance trains along the East Coast, including the Crescent, which runs from New Orleans to New York and the Palmetto, which runs between New York and Savannah, Ga.

-- Sholnn Freeman

Original post: Amtrak is reporting no significant delays at this time. But officials said delays may occur as the storm intensifies.

Amtrak said it has a snow plan in place with extra personnel and weather equipment on standby, including snow plows and diesel locomotives.

Passengers should check train status updates on or 1-800-USA-RAIL.

These claims by Amtrak are completely false. I am a passenger sitting in the station in DC. I have been here since 3 pm, I was supposed to be here at one, but my train was delayed two hours. I was scheduled to leave DC, going home to Pittsburgh THREE hours ago. They are now telling us our train will not be leaving until 7:30 pm at the earliest. Fortunately, I have plenty of company here in DC. NO trains have left this station since almost 2pm. What passengers are now being told, all Amtrak trains out of DC are delayed. Looking at the board right now, two trains heading towards New York have been canceled. There seems to be no signs anyone is going anywhere anytime soon.
While the weather is making travel difficult today, with almost all Northeast Airports closed, Amtrak seemed the only real option. But as of now it seems the winter weather is freezing even Amtrak.

My friends are trying to get to New York tonight. Does anyone currently at Union Station have any information on whether trains to NY have been leaving? They are on the 10pm train. I'm worried that they'll get to Union Station and get stranded. Anyone, please help! Thanks!

It is 1:36 AM. The 97 train to Miami has been stalled at Washington DC since 8:30 PM. Passangers have not received any updates or status of when this train will be departing. We were told at the arrival at Washington DC that there was no engine available to be replaced and a replacement would arrive at in 'two hours'. It has 5 hours later and all passengers have been held hostage at this station and apparently depature is not imminent. Passengers have begun to complain due to the lack of activity and lack of facilities as the bathrooms are either out of srvice or smelling. Again this the amtrak train 97 to Miami.

Can someone please report the status of trains scheduled to leave from Union Station, DC to NY, this morning: 4:30AM Sunday, Dec 20? I was told that the 6:20AM was canceled but that the 7:30 is on time. Wold hate to trek through the snow to find out that the 7:30 is canceled too. Thanks, H

It is 10:41 AM December 21 and Amtrak 97 on route to Miami is 'somewhere' in Virginia. Maybe Richmond. Currently this train is over 12 hours behind schedule. Most restrooms continue to be out of service and we continuing to experience delays on route.
