Headaches on the horizon

Once again, the weather is an overnight problem, but various lane closures also are planned.

High winds: Strong gusts could bring down trees and branches across the region. The National Weather Service has a wind advisory in effect till 1 a.m.

HOT lanes: The construction project along the western side of the Beltway in Virginia plans many lane closings between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m.
-- Two lanes of Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) north will close at I-495 for bridge deck work. Expect intermittent full roadway closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
-- Two right lanes of Chain Bridge Road south will close and single right turn lane to Tysons Blvd will close.
-- Three left lanes of I-495 north will close at Exit 54, Braddock Road (Route 620), for steel beam erection.
-- Three lanes of I-495 will close at Exit 49, I-66, with temporary total closures for no more than 30 minutes to begin after midnight.
-- Three left lanes of I-495 south will close at Exit 51, Gallows Rd. (Route 650).
-- The I-66 west ramp to I-495 south will close.
-- The I-66 east HOV ramp to I-495 north/south will close.
-- I-495 south will close at Exit 54, Braddock Road (Route 620).
-- The I-495 south Exit 54B ramp to Braddock Road east will close.
-- The Braddock Road west ramp to I-495 south will close.
-- The I-495 north Exit 54 ramp to the Dulles Toll Rd. (Route 267) west will close.
-- I-495 north Exit 46, Chain Bridge Road south, will close.

Most of those locations will post detour signs.

Dulles Metrorail project overnight closings:
-- A single lane of Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) west will close from Magarity Road to Dolley Madison Boulevard (Route 123).
-- A single lane of I-66 west will close from Haycock Boulevard to the Dulles Connector Road.
-- A single lane of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east will close between Spring Hill Road and Marshall's Drive.
-- Two lanes of Dolley Madison Boulevard south will close at Scotts Crossing Road.
-- A single lane of Westpark Drive south will close from Greensboro Drive to Leesburg Pike.
-- Two right turn lanes of Chain Bridge Road south will close at Tysons Boulevard.

Metro nightly delays:
This is the schedule posted by Metro for your guidance, but note in this previous posting that Metro will feel free to disregard it.
Red Line: Trains will share one track between the Medical Center and Grosvenor stations from 8 p.m. through closing. Riders should add at least 20 minutes to their travel times.
Blue Line: Trains will share one track between the Stadium-Armory and Addison Road stations from 9:30 p.m. through closing. Add at least 30 minutes.
Orange Line: Trains will share one track between the Cheverly and New Carrollton stations from 9:30 p.m. through closing. Add at least 20 minutes.
