Morning delays and problems

It's the first Monday morning after the weekend snowstorm. With the federal government and many other offices and schools closed today, what can those of you who will be commuting expect early this morning? Here are some early things to keep your eyes on. (This page will be updated.)

Beltway Accident In Maryland
An accident has closed multiple lanes on the outer loop of the Beltway in College Park at about 5:45 a.m. The two-vehicle accident occurred where I-495 splits off to I-95, the Maryland State Police report. The two left lanes on the outer loop are getting by, while the ramp lanes onto I-95 are closed until the tow trucks remove the cars involved. [6:45 A.M. UPDATE: All lanes are now open.]

Accidents and Incidents in Virginia
An accident on I-95/the Beltway at Van Dorn Street in Alexandria has closed the north right lane and right shoulder shortly before 5:50 a.m. A car fire at 6:10 a.m. has closed the two left lanes on I-95 South at Occoquan Bridge. [6:25 A.M. Update:] An accident on the outer loop of the Beltway has closed the right lane due to an accident at Van Dorn. [6:55 A.M. UPDATE:] Two right lanes are now closed on the outer loop at Van Dorn Street.

[8:50 A.M. UPDATE:] Two more incidents, via Joan Morris at VDOT: On I-95 North, the left lane is blocked just south of 156 due to an accident. Also on I-95 North, the left lane is blocked just before Dale Boulevard. And on I-495 North at 193, the right lane is blocked due to a disabled vehicle.

Virginia Road Concerns [6:15 a.m. update]
Joan Morris, spokesman for the Virginia Department of Transportation, reports a few items for Virginia drivers. There may be lane closures on I-66 inside the Beltway at various points due to snow pileup. They were unable to open the shoulder lane on I-66 outside the Beltway (from Route 50 to the Beltway, specifically), again due to snow pileup. And they are working to open the HOV lane on 95, but the first three or four HOV lanes are still closed (due to -- you guessed it -- snow).

There will be sections of the Beltway with moving lane closures due to snow removal at various times through the morning rush today. Unfortunately, since they are moving closures it's simply going to be a periodic thing in Virginia, so we can't give you specific locations at every moment. (For example, circa 6:10 a.m., the lane closures existed near the exits for 193, Route 7 and 123.)

Metro Delays
By 6:45 a.m. this morning, there have been Metro delays on the blue line (at the Pentagon, heading towards Largo Town Center), on the blue and orange lines (in both directions, stemming from an incident at McPherson Square) and the red line (due to a disruption at Rockville, causing delays to Glenmont). If I were a betting man, I'd assume Metro delays are a distinct possibility if you're taking the trains today.

Disabled Car On US 50 in P.G. County
[7:20 a.m.] A disabled car on US 50 East -- just past Lottsford Vista Road -- has closed one eastbound lane and the left eastbound shoulder.

Vehicle Fire On 267 -- Just Before Dulles Airport
[7:55 a.m.:] What could add to the fun of commuting AND heading to the airport this morning? How about a vehicle fire on 267 East (Dulles Airport Access and Toll Road) just before Dulles. The vehicle fire is in the area of the entrance ramp and could cause delays and headaches for weary travelers.
