D.C. to use federal funds for bridge, escalator projects
The District has received a $4.3 million federal grant to replace escalators in the Union Station parking garage and an additional $2.9 million toward replacing a rail bridge over the Potomac.
The funding was part of the $8 billion in federal stimulus money designated for rail projects across the country. The D.C. Department of Transportation will use its share to replace 10 garage escalators and toward replacement of the Long Bridge. The bridge carries freight, Amtrak and VRE commuter trains across the Potomac.
