Headaches on the horizon

Night maintenance on Metro
Metro will be doing track work Sunday through Thursday nights during January, which will increase travel times where trains share a single track to get around the work. (The schedule is subject to change each night.)
-- Red Line riders between Medical Center and Grosvenor should add at least 20 minutes from 8 p.m. through the midnight closing.
-- Blue Line riders between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road should add at least half an hour to their travel time from 9:30 p.m. through closing.

Loud bang from Dulles Rail
Contractors building the Dulles Metrorail line will test the structural integrity of a caisson near Dolley Madison Road (Route 123) and the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) interchange on Thursday at about 1 p.m.

Many nearby residents and travelers will notice this because of the loud bang, but it's part of the test to measure the load capacity of the caisson. This is going to be done on the right hand side of southbound Route 123 across the street from Anderson Road.

Flaggers and police will be in place to stop traffic from entering adjacent roads during the short testing period.

Tunnel Cleaning
Between the rush hours on Thursday, crews will be cleaning several tunnels and ramps around and under the National Mall, requiring single lane and double lane closings. Traffic delays are likely.
