Riggs Road closed in Northeast DC

Riggs Road is closed in Northeast DC between Rock Creek Church Road and North Capitol Street because of a downed utility pole. Eastbound traffic (on Missouri Avenue N.W., before it turns into Riggs Road at North Capitol Street, just after crossing from Northwest into Northeast) is being diverted north or south onto North Capitol Street. Westbound traffic is being shunted onto Rock Creek Church Road.

The road is expected by the District Department of Transportation to reopen before rush hour ends this morning. Alternative routes are plentiful -- Kennedy and Longfellow streets to the north, Hamilton and Gallatin streets to the south -- so plan out your detours before you head out.
