Water main breaks close streets in Northeast D.C.

A pair of water main breaks that occurred yesterday are still being repaired this morning, closing some streets in Northeast D.C. as the morning commute gets underway.

The DC Water and Sewer Authority reports this morning that Florida Avenue NE is closed at West Virginia Ave NE, stemming from a 12-inch water main that broke yesterday. They expect repairs to be completed by 9 a.m. and for the roads to open shortly thereafter. Florida Avenue is closed in both directions between West Virginia Avenue and 11th Street NE, the District Department of Transportation confirmed.

Another water main break occurred at 11th and E streets NE, closing 11th Street between Maryland Avenue NE and E Street NE. The Water and Sewer Authority expect those repairs to be completed sometime after rush hour, but no specific timetable was available.
