495 lanes closed south of River Road

8:45 A.M. UPDATE: Traffic has improved further still, but if you're taking this route be wary of the trip taking a bit longer than usual.

8:25 A.M. UPDATE: The traffic is moving faster on I-495 at River Road, but it's not moving as fluidly as on a regular morning.

8:05 A.M. UPDATE: Traffic on I-495 at River Road is moving, but still crawling along as the roads get more and more crowded with rush hour traffic.

7:40 A.M. UPDATE: All lanes are now open and only one shoulder is closed. Traffic seems to have slightly eased up at River Road, but is still moving at a crawl there and at Old Georgetown Road.

7:20 A.M. UPDATE: Now two of the four lanes are open, with the left two lanes still closed.

ORIGINAL POST: A collision has closed three of four lanes on I-495/Outer Loop south of River Road/MD 190. At this time, only the right lane is getting by, with the three left lanes and left shoulder closed due to the accident. Traffic cameras show cars grinding to a near halt when they reach River Road, with traffic backed up to Old Georgetown Road. (It appears not to get bad until after Rockville Pike.) The Maryland State Police have just arrived on the scene.
