3rd St. Tunnel reopens

10:30 p.m. UPDATE: The tuinnel has reopened.
8:45 p.m. UPDATE: The salt truck that hit the 3rd Street Tunnel was traveling with the dumpbed raised, and the bed struck the roof of the tunnel. Tiles were knocked down from the roof and several utility wires may have been damaged.
Authorities were inspecting the tunnel for structural damage, said Pete Piringer, a D.C. fire department spokesman.

Original post: Authorities shut down the 3rd Street Tunnel about 7:30 p.m. after a contract snow plow slid into concrete entrance to the tunnel near New York Avenue in Northwest.
No injuries were reported but officials closed the road while they removed loads of salt and debris from the accident.
