Coast Guard expects gale force winds will affect mariners
It's not just people on the roads, rails and in the air who will be affected by the approaching snowstorm. The Coast Guard is warning mariners from Virginia to New York about the approaching storm, which could produce gale-force winds.
The Coast Guard said Thursday in a news release that a gale-force wind warning is in effect Saturday and Sunday, with wind speeds of 35 to 65 knots expected. Fourteen to 27 foot seas also are expected.
A Coast Guard aircraft crew from Elizabeth City, N.C., planned to fly along the coast Thursday and warn mariners.
