Early traffic headaches

Some early snags and issues for drivers on the road this morning:

-- A train malfunction at Union Station has been resolved, but the Red Line still has delays heading from that station towards Glenmont.

-- I-495 North has delays from I-66 and going back about five miles.

-- I-395 North has congestion and delays the entire way, from the 14th Street Bridge back to the Beltway.

-- An accident at 11th Street at Vermont Avenue in Northwest has closed that intersection.

-- An accident at New York Avenue at Fairview in Northeast could cause delays

-- An accident on North Capitol Street at Rhode Island Avenue in Northwest has caused backups and delays on North Capitol Street.

8:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- A disabled vehicle has closed the right lane of I-395 North just after the Springfield Interchange, essentially right after you first get onto the roadway.

-- Traffic is backed up for several miles on I-66 East at the Beltway.

-- There's also a few miles of traffic backed up from I-495 North at Arlington Boulevard.

7:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- A disabled vehicle on I-495 North at Braddock Road has closed the north right shoulder and delays are possible

-- The north right lane of I-395 North remains closed just before 14th Street Bridge, owing to the earlier accident.

-- An accident on I-395 North just before the 14th Street Bridge has closed the northbound right lane and caused a couple of miles of backups

-- An accident on I-95 North circa Lorton closed the left shoulder and is causing delays

6:25 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on I-95 North/Beltway at Telegraph Road will cause delays

-- An accident on I-495 North just before the Springfield Interchange has closed the north left shoulder and might cause some delays.

-- A single-car accident earlier this morning has closed MD 29 South at I-495; all southbound lanes and both southbound shoulders are closed. [UPDATE: One shoulder has reopened.] [UPDATE: All lanes have reopened.]

-- An accident on I-95 South in Newington (at the Fairfax County Parkway) has closed the left lane and left shoulder. [UPDATE: Reopened.]

-- On I-395 North just before the 14th Street Bridge, an accident in the HOV lanes has closed two reversible lanes. [UPDATE: Reopened.]

POSSIBLE DELAYS: Early morning work by the District Department of Transportation required temporarily closing ramps from the outbound 11th Street Bridge to Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Anacostia Drive. This work was part of the 11th Street Bridge Project. The work was scheduled to occur between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m., with all lanes and ramps reopened to traffic by 5 a.m. So this is a head's up in case any residual delays linger from this.

Do you know if Chain Bridge will be closed this weekend? Don't know if they pushed the work back to this weekend.

Someone really needs to clean up Westmoreland Circle in NW between DC/MD line...the traffic is giving everyone such a headache there.
