Incidents on early commute

Many streets are still crowded with snow, so there will again be delays and sluggish commutes for many drivers today. Here are some traffic woes to be aware of:

9:10 A.M. UPDATE:
Branch Avenue has reopened in both directions.

8:35 A.M. UPDATE:
-- The left center lane on I-495 North at I-66 is closed due to a disabled vehicle.
-- An accident has closed the right lane and right shoulder of I-395 North at Seminary Road.

8:10 A.M. UPDATE:
-- Branch Avenue has reopened heading north, with the southbound lanes still closed. (More)
-- An accident on I-495 South at the Little River Turnpike has closed the south right lane; a disabled vehicle has closed the south right shoulder at Gallows Road, so that stretch will be slow.
-- On I-495 North in the same vicinity (between Gallows and the Little River Turnpike), bad congestion remains.

7:25 A.M. UPDATE:
-- Branch Avenue remains closed in both directions at Suitland Parkway; click here for more.
-- Traffic is backed up for a few miles on I-495 North from Gallows Road
-- The I-66 East logjam remains from the Beltway back to the Fairfax County Parkway
-- I-395 North is slow from Seminary Road back to the Beltway

-- Branch Avenue/MD 5 remains closed north and south at Suitland Parkway/the District/Maryland border [separate post here]
-- I-66 East has traffic from the Beltway back to the Fairfax County Parkway

-- An accident has closed MD 5/Branch Avenue in both directions, north and south, at Suitland Parkway (a.k.a. the District/Maryland line).
-- A disabled vehicle on I-395 South has closed the southbound right lane and right shoulder at Duke Street.
-- A disabled vehicle has closed the left lane of I-95 North in Triangle at Russell Road.

Wow. This morning I had one of my quickest rides in months on the J3 Metrobus from Silver Spring to Bethesda along East West Highway at 8:20am. All the lanes were clear of snow and not so many cars. Maybe everyone decided to ride the bus; standing room only with folks crammed into the "prohibited" area at the front.
Like I said, best ride in a long time.
