Morning commute watch

Here's a roundup of some of the big problems facing commuters on the roads and rails today...

9:10 A.M.: An accident on Eastern and Southern avenues in Northeast Washington might see lane reductions or closures, so be advised if you are heading near that intersection. I-395 North is a nightmare the closer you get to the District. The 14th Street Bridge is, similarly, very slowed down. I-66 East has slowed to a crawl at the Beltway. Traffic on I-495 South near Seven Locks Road is barely crawling. And the lane closures on Route 7 are still snarling traffic around the Tysons area.

8:45 A.M.: All lanes have reopened on I-270 South. On Route 110 West, the right lane is closed near N. Marshall Drive due to an accident. On I-395 North before Seminary Road, a disabled vehicle has closed the right lane. And there's the usual traffic on I-395 North at the 14th Street Bridge, on I-495 North at Arlington Boulevard and I-66 East heading onto the Teddy Roosevelt Bridge.

8:25 A.M.: A fire on the side of the Metro track at the Gallery Place-Chinatown station earlier this morning was extinguished with no delays to rail service, according to Metro. There was burning debris on the side of the track on the Red Line underneath 7th Street NW, but the fire was put out at 7:50 a.m. No delays and train service was unaffected, Metro reported.

8:15 A.M.: Route 7 remains closed near the ramp to I-495 South due to the earlier hit and run that killed a pedestrian this morning.

7:55 A.M.: A collision on I-270 South before Falls Road has closed two southbound lanes and one southbound shoulder.

7:40 A.M.: VRE commuters -- train 324 on the Manassas Line (departing Broad Run at 5:45 a.m.) is 25 minutes late due to earlier speed restrictions and rail congestion near Alexandria.

7:20 A.M.: Traffic has slowed to a crawl on I-395 North shortly after the Beltway. An accident on I-95 South/the Beltway near Telegraph Road has closed the south right lane. A disabled car on I-495 North -- between Gallows Road and the Little River Turnpike -- is going to exacerbate the usual delays on that stretch of the Beltway.

6:40 A.M.: On Braddock Read eastbound, just before the Beltway, an accident appears to have closed the two left lanes. This is causing some delays. An accident on I-95 South/Beltway near Telegraph Road is also causing some delays and lane closures.

6:10 A.M.: The delays on the Blue and Yellow Lines have been lifted.

6 A.M.: The Route 7 accident is a hit and run that killed a pedestrian. Route 7 is closed eastbound between Old Gallows Road and the Beltway. More information is available here.

5:40 A.M.: An accident on Route 7 eastbound near the ramp from I-495 South is going to cause major delays -- the left lane, center lane, right lane, entrance ramp, exit ramp and both shoulders are closed. The accident occurred earlier this morning and is believed to be a hit and run involving a pedestrian. More information as we get it.

5:35 A.M.: Unscheduled track maintenance at Braddock Road is causing delays on the Blue and Yellow Lines in both directions. Trains are sharing one track between the Huntington and Braddock Road stations.
