Ramp closed to 11th St Bridge

8:20 A.M. UPDATE:

Icy conditions on the ramp from the 11th Street Bridge to 8th Street caused an incident with a vehicle earlier this morning, said Karyn Le Blanc, a spokeswoman for the District Department of Transportation. She was uncertain whether there was an accident or the vehicle overturned. The incident has been cleared, but the ramp remains closed until it can be salted. Salt trucks have been dispatched and they hope the ramp is updated soon, she said.

ORIGINAL POST:
The 8th Street ramp off of the 11th Street Bridge in Southeast has been closed due to a vehicle incident and icy conditions, the District Department of Transportation reported. There are delays in effect all around the area surrounding the Navy Yard. There are salt and snow trucks on the scene to deal with the icy road.

The Department of Transportation recommends alternate routes for motorists. To the west side of the 11th Street Bridge, the South Capitol/Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge; to the east, the Sousa Bridge at Pennsylvania Avenue.

If you're heading into the District and want to get to either one, take MLK Avenue (to Suitland Parkway for the Douglass Bridge; for the Sousa Bridge, take Good Hope Road to Minnesota Avenue, which takes you to Pennsylvania Avenue). Depending on how far out you are from the river, taking Naylor Road, Branch Avenue or Suitland Parkway could also be good alternatives.
