Roads full of delays

Airports | Amtrak | Buses | Capital Weather Gang | D.C. snow emergency | Plowing plans | Rails | Snow removal | Live traffic

9:35 A.M. UPDATE: An accident on I-495 North at Braddock Road has closed the left lane, left center lane and left shoulder, so Beltway commuters should expect delays stemming from that.

8:30 A.M. UPDATE: An accident on I-495 Outer Loop at I-270 North could cause delays for Beltway commuters... a multi-vehicle accident on I-95 North has closed the north exit ramp right after the Springfield Interchange/I-395 split... this part of the Beltway is a trouble spot: Just beyond that accident, a disabled vehicle on I-95 North has closed the left lane at Van Dorn Street, and another disabled vehicle has closed the right shoulder about a mile after that... an accident has closed the shoulder of I-95 South at Van Dorn Street, so watch out for that area in either direction.

Even after days of snowstorms and pummeling winds, there are some people who simply have to be on the roads. While the region's usually-bustling roadways aren't nearly as crowded as usual, there are still cars out there and so there are delays. Here's an idea of issues facing the drivers who have to go out amidst the ice and snow:

The Potomac Expressway is closed between E Street and Ohio Drive due to a traffic accident. There are downed trees, limbs and branches reported on various sidewalks and roads, while temporary lane closures on the bridges and major highways might be in effect during the day as crews continue to plow and haul the snow, the District Department of Transportation warned.

A disabled vehicle has closed the north right lane of I-95 North at the Springfield Interchange. There's another disabled vehicle on I-95 North between Van Dorn Street and Telegraph Road. And yet another disabled vehicle has closed the east right outside lane of VA-7 near Aline Avenue.

A disabled vehicle in the roadway is causing issues for drivers on MD 5 South at I-95 North, while an accident has slowed traffic on I-270 South just before I-370.

What are the chances the roads and metro will be able to handle commuters tomorrow? I would like to go into work if the buses and above-ground stations are running, but I'm wondering if it would be better for my sanity to just call it a week right now...
