Georgia Ave. @Girard reopens after fire
6:20 p.m.: DDOT officials report that Georgia Avenue has reopened.
6 p.m. Update: Spokesman Pete Piringer said investigators are still on the scene of the fire and equipment is still stretched across Georgia Avenue. The building was unoccupied, he said.
5:25 p.m. Update: Officials report that Georgia Avenue is still blocked. The fire occurred at the site of a two-story commercial building, they said. The first-floor fire did moderate damage, officials said.
5:05 p.m. Update: According to officials, there are no injuries at the scene of the ire in the 2800 block of Georgia Avenue.
Original post: According to D.C. Fire/EMS officials, Georgia Avenue NW is closed between Girard Street and Columbia Road NW. Officials said the fire is under control.
