Headaches on the horizon

This work may slow your travels on Monday night.

Metrorail delays
Red Line riders between Medical Center and Grosvenor should add at least 20 minutes to their normal travel time from 8 p.m. through the midnight closing Monday through Thursday. Workers will be replacing old rail fasteners to stabilize the tracks, and trains in both directions will be sharing a single track around the work zone.

Blue Line riders between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road should add at least half an hour to their travel time from 9:30 p.m. to the midnight close Monday through Thursday. Trains will share a single track while workers replace concrete slabs underneath the rails.

Virginia megaprojects
There is some mega-work scheduled between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Some of it involves complete closings of Beltway loops.

Beltway HOT lanes project
Lanes closed
-- Three right lanes and the collector-distributor on I-495 south will close at exit 54, Braddock Road (Route 620), for bridge work. Traffic heading for Braddock Road east will be directed to exit 54A, Braddock Road (Route 620) west. From there, drivers will make a left at the signal onto Braddock Road east.
-- Three left lanes of I-495 north will close at the Oak Street overpass for bridge work. After midnight, watch for full closings of the inner loop for up to half an hour.
-- A single lane of Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) north will close at Tysons Boulevard for bridge work.

Highway closings
-- I-495 north will close at exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Route 7), for steel beam erection. Through traffic will be directed to use the collector-distributor road.
-- I-495 south will close at exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Route 7), for steel beam erection. Through traffic will be directed to take exit 47A, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west, where police will direct traffic over the roadway median to Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east and back onto I-495 south.

Ramps closed
-- Ramp to exit 47B, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east, from I-495 south will close for steel beam erection. Traffic will be directed to take exit 47A, Leesburg Pike west, where police will direct traffic over the roadway median to Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east.
-- Ramp to I-495 south from Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west will close for steel beam erection. Traffic will be directed to continue west to International Drive and make a U-turn and follow signs to I-495 south.
-- Ramp from Braddock Road (Route 620) east to I-495 south will close for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to take I-495 north to exit 52, Little River Turnpike (Route 236), and stay to the right following signs to I-495 south.

Metrorail extension
Lanes closed
-- Two left turn lanes of Dolley Madison Boulevard (Route 123) north at Capital One Drive will close for utility work.
-- Two lanes of Dolley Madison Boulevard will close from Scotts Run Road to Capital One Drive for utility work.
-- A single left turn lane of Old Meadow Road west at Dolley Madison Boulevard will close for utility work.
