Metro train derailed Wednesday

Update: Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein said Thursday that the train was being moved in the Brentwood rail yard around noon Wednesday when an operator apparently ran a red signal.

Farbstein says the front two wheels of the four-car train derailed, damaging the track and the third rail, but no injuries were reported. She did not have a damage estimate.

Farbstein says two train operators and a track worker on the scene were given drug and alcohol tests and put on routine paid administrative leave.

Why did Metro wait over 24 hours before announcing this to the press and public?

@WashingtonDame, because it took over 24 hours for Metro to realize a train had derailed! :-)

...an operator apparently ran a red signal.

One of Metro's first steps in improving safety should be to stop hiring the mentally challenged.

If the NAVY ran the way Metro does we'd have no fleet.

Time for another fare increase. Every time Metro has an accident or kills someone the fares go up.

Whew! I was worried Metro wouldn't have a "crash of the month" this month.
