Red line delays [UPDATED]

Here's a roundup of traffic and transportation news for commuters this morning...

9:25 A.M. UPDATE:

-- There's an accident on I-495 North at Gallows Road, but it's on the left shoulder.

-- There's fire and emergency activity at 12th and F streets in Northwest, one of the intersections with a Metro Center entrance. Lanes might be impacted, so avoid the area if you can.

-- The traffic on I-66 East is still bad at the Beltway and stemming back a ways.

-- Fire and emergency activity at 7th and H streets in Northwest -- at the corner housing the Chinatown Gateway Arch and the north Gallery Place Metro entrance -- could limit lanes and make that area a traffic problem. Avoid it if possible.

-- There's also fire and emergency activity on the 3500 block of Martin Luther King Avenue in Southeast, so avoid that are if you can help it.

-- An accident on 16th Street and Blagden Avenue in Northwest is slowing traffic.

8:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Red Line delays have finally abated, per WMATA's Web site.

-- I-495 North is congested and delayed for quite a while leading up to I-66.

-- Also on I-495 North, an accident at Braddock Road is on the shoulder but could still cause additional headaches.

-- The I-95/Inner Loop accident at U.S. 1 has been cleared -- all lanes and both shoulders have reopened.

-- That car blocking the right lane of Massachusetts Avenue southbound to the south of Dupont Circle? Still there. Still blocking.

-- The 5th Street and Rhode Island Avenue accident in Northwest is still slowing traffic, too.

-- A disabled car on Connecticut Avenue at Rhode Island Avenue might cause some congestion.

8:05 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The Red Line delays continue in both directions, though single-tracking is no longer in effect.

-- Update on the earlier accident on I-95/Inner Loop south of U.S. 1 -- just the shoulders remain closed. All other lanes are open.

-- A disabled vehicle on Massachusetts Avenue at Dupont Circle is blocking the right hand lane to the south of the circle.

-- An accident at 5th Street and Rhode Island Avenue in Northwest is slowing traffic, so avoid the area if you can.

7:45 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Red Line delays are still afoot.

-- A multi-vehicle accident on I-95/Inner Loop to the south of U.S. 1 has closed two of the four inner loop lanes and both shoulders.

-- An accident on I-270 North at I-370 is going to cause delays for northbound traffic.

-- An accident at 30th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast might cause some delays.

-- An accident on New York Avenue at Florida Avenue in Northeast has closed the third lane from the left on Florida Avenue eastbound; the two eastbound left lanes on Florida Avenue were closed but have been reopened. Even though two of the lanes have reopened, expect delays and congestion due to the built-up congestion and the residual traffic from the earlier lane closures.

-- I-495 North is very backed up leading to Arlington Boulevard.

-- Traffic is still very heavy on I-66 East at the Beltway.

7:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Red Line delays continue due to the single-tracking between Glenmont and Wheaton.

-- I-66 East is seeing big backups beginning at the Beltway.

-- I-395 North is congested from King Street on back to the Springfield Interchange.

-- I-495 North has backups beginning at Gallows Road.

-- An accident on the Whitney Young Bridge/East Capitol Street Bridge in Northeast (next to RFK Stadium) might cause some traffic snags, so be wary.

-- The Red Line delays continue due to single-tracking between Glenmont and Wheaton.

-- An accident on U.S. 50 West at MD 295 could cause congestion for westbound traffic.

6:40 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Red Line delays linger due to single-tracking between Glenmont and Wheaton.

-- The Orange Line no longer has delays.

-- I-95 North is backed up before you reach the Springfield Interchange.

-- Police and fire activity in the 5800 block of Van Ness Street in Northwest; not expected to impact traffic, but wise to avoid the area if you can.

-- There's also police and fire activity at 36 O Street in NW, which will cause traffic issues there. Avoid it if you can.

6:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Red Line delays in both directions due to trains sharing a single track between the Wheaton and Glenmont stations. This is due to emergency track maintenance between the stations, which are the last two on the east leg of the Red Line.

-- Orange Line delays en route to the Vienna station due to an earlier train malfunction at the Stadium-Armory station. (The malfunction has been resolved, but delays linger.)

-- The earlier situation blocking part of the Douglass Bridge has been resolved.

-- An accident on the Douglass Bridge is blocking the left two lanes on the inbound side. The District Department of Transportation recommends you avoid the bridge and use alternate routes; they recommend the 11th Street Bridge as an alternative.

-- A disabled car is blocking the southbound right off-ramp on MD 295 South at Riverdale Road.
