GW Parkway NB accident [UPDATED]
Here's a roundup of traffic and commuting issues this morning...
8:50 A.M. UPDATE:
-- There is police and fire activity on the 200 block of Emerson Street in Northwest, so avoid that area.
-- An accident on I-395 North at Edsall Road, so prepare for delays.
8:25 A.M. UPDATE:
-- A disabled vehicle on I-395 North at Duke Street has closed the right shoulder.
-- There's also a disabled car on 14th Street and Military Road in Northwest.
-- Two areas of trouble on the Beltway in Virginia: On I-495 North leading to Arlington Boulevard, which has been congested all day, and on I-95 South at Telegraph Road.
8 A.M. UPDATE:
-- The Orange Line delays have cleared up.
-- I-395 North remains backed up from the 14th Street Bridge and back, on and off, to the Springfield Interchange.
-- A disabled vehicle on I-495 South is partially blocking the merge lane with Route 123, but traffic can still enter and exit I-495 South from Route 123.
7:40 A.M. UPDATE:
-- All lanes have reopened on the G.W. Parkway, according to the U.S. Park Police. However, residual traffic and delays could linger for a while, so you should still try to avoid this route if you can.
-- Orange Line delays continue in both directions.
-- An accident at 7th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast is slowing traffic in this area.
-- The Sousa Bridge disabled vehicle has been moved.
-- Big traffic on I-395 North leading to the 14th Street Bridge.
-- Also big congestion on I-495 North leading to Arlington Boulevard.
7:20 A.M. UPDATE:
-- The U.S. Park Police reports no change in the G.W. Parkway lane closure. If you can avoid that area, absolutely do so. (If you need to get from the Rosslyn area to the Beltway, for instance, consider taking I-66, U.S. 50 or the much slower Old Dominion Drive. If you need to get to Route 123, Old Dominion Drive is also a good option, as it intersects with Route 123 before the Beltway.)
-- Update on the disabled vehicle on the Sousa Bridge -- it's inbound and blocking the third lane from the left.
-- An accident at 24th Street and Southern Avenue in Southeast involving a tractor-trailer and another vehicle could cause some delays in the vicinity.
-- Delays on the Orange Line in both directions due to a disruption between the Minnesota Avenue and Stadium-Armory stations heading towards Vienna.
7 A.M. UPDATE:
-- Traffic on I-395 North has gotten much worse at the 14th Street Bridge, backing up to King Street.
-- Congestion on I-495 North leading up to Gallows Road.
-- There's a disabled vehicle on the Sousa Bridge (carrying Pennsylvania Avenue traffic between the Anacostia and Southeast Freeways), though the direction is unknown at this time.
6:40 A.M. UPDATE:
-- An accident involving one car on the G.W. Parkway has closed one northbound lane at Route 123. A car drove into a tree shortly before 6 a.m. this morning. There's no estimate yet on when the lane might reopen, according to the U.S. Park Police. Traffic is going to build up significantly on G.W. Parkway, so avoid it if you can.
-- There's a disabled car on I-495 South at Route 123. There's also a disabled car on I-495 South at Braddock Road.
-- Congestion is already bad on I-395 North through Duke Street and at the 14th Street Bridge.
-- The I-95 Inner Loop disabled vehicle has been moved from the roadway, so that's clear.
6:20 A.M. UPDATE:
-- The disabled vehicle on I-95 Inner Loop at Kenilworth Avenue is on one of the shoulders.
-- A disabled vehicle on I-495 North at Braddock Road has closed the right shoulder.
-- An accident on I-95 North shortly before the Springfield Interchange has closed the right shoulder.
-- I-395 North is congested beginning at Duke Street.
-- Fire and police activity on the 1200 block of Vermont Avenue in Northwest, so avoid that area for the near future.
-- Amtrak construction is altering MARC Penn Line schedules. More information here.
-- A disabled vehicle on I-95 Inner Loop at Kenilworth Avenue might cause delays in that area.
-- Water Street (MD 717) is still closed in both directions before Pennsylvania Avenue (MD 4) due to high water; the closure is in Upper Marlboro, to the east of where Pennsylvania Avenue reaches the Beltway.
-- An accident on I-395 South at Edsall Road has closed the left shoulder and might cause delays.
-- A disabled vehicle on I-95 South, just south of the Beltway, has closed the right shoulder and might cause delays.
-- There's a disabled vehicle on I-95 South/the Beltway at U.S. 1/Richmond Highway. On the right shoulder, might cause delays.
