I-95 issues at interchange
Here's a roundup of the commuting issues facing people around the region...
9 A.M. UPDATE:
-- An accident on the 100 block of Riggs Road in Northeast is going to block up traffic. Avoid that area.
-- An accident on I-495 North at Arlington Boulevard is on the shoulder, so it shouldn't impact traffic that much, but be aware just in case. I-495 North leading to I-66 is very congested in any event.
-- I-395 North remains congested at Seminary Road and the 14th Street Bridge.
8:40 A.M. UPDATE:
-- On I-95 North, an accident has closed the right lane and right shoulder at the Springfield Interchange.
-- An accident on North Capitol Street and New York Avenue in Northeast is going to slow down traffic for a while, so avoid that area.
-- An accident in the 600 block of Edgewood Street in Northeast is also going to slow down traffic, so avoid that area as well.
-- Update on the earlier accident on 19th and I (Eye) streets in Northwest -- the left lane of 19th Street southbound is blocked.
8:20 A.M. UPDATE:
-- A disabled car on 295 Northbound is on the right shoulder, so it shouldn't delay traffic too much; even so, stay left.
8 A.M. UPDATE:
-- An accident on the 14th Street Bridge northbound/heading inbound is blocking the right lanes, the H.O.V. lanes, so keep left if you can.
-- I-395 North has heavy traffic at Seminary Road and the 14th Street Bridge (this owing to the accident on the bridge heading into the District).
-- The U.S. 301 closures have been lifted, so that roadway is finally clear.
-- The I-495 South accident at the Beltway is now just closing the southbound right shoulder.
-- A disabled vehicle on 395 South at Maine Avenue in Southwest has been moved to the shoulder, but be wary of potential delays.
7:35 A.M. UPDATE:
-- An accident on I-95 South at the Springfield Interchange has closed the south left lane and exit ramp. However, traffic on I-95 South remains moving and doesn't appear significantly slowed down right now. So while the entire area has been a nightmare this morning, it does appear reasonably smooth heading southbound.
-- Comparatively, I-395 North right after the Springfield Interchange is very sluggish.
-- The south right lane remains closed on I-495 South at Arlington Boulevard.
-- On U.S. 301 South, it's now back to one southbound lane and one southbound shoulder closed just south of Excalibur Road.
-- An accident at 19th and I (Eye) streets in Northwest is jamming up traffic, so avoid that area if you can and expect delays if you can't.
-- There's also an accident on 16th Street and Florida Avenue in Northwest.
-- An accident on the 400 block of Ridge Road in Southeast is going to slow traffic there.
7:10 A.M. UPDATE:
-- The lane closures on I-95 South have been lifted, and traffic appears to be picking back up. There's the usual northbound congestion, but southbound traffic is moving smoothly again.
-- Traffic is getting pretty bad on I-95 North/the Beltway circa Van Dorn Street.
-- An accident involving multiple vehicles on I-495 South at the Beltway is going to cause some lane closures and delays.
-- On I-495 South, the right center lane and right lane remain closed at Arlington Boulevard (owing to that earlier accident).
-- MARC Brunswick Line commuters:The signal and track issues between Silver Spring and Washington have cleared, so all trains should be running on time.
6:50 A.M. UPDATE:
-- Lane closures continue on I-95 at the Springfield Interchange. Southbound traffic is a nightmare as you get south of the interchange. I-95 North is also slowing and sluggish.
-- An accident on I-495 South at Arlington Boulevard has closed the right center land and right center lane.
-- An accident on I-495 South is blocking the right shoulder of the ramp to Gallows Road, too.
-- There's police and fire activity on 295 North at Laboratory Road in Southeast. Avoid that area.
6:35 A.M. UPDATE:
-- An accident has closed the left lane, left center lane and left shoulder on I-95 South just to the south of the Springfield Interchange. One reversible lane of I-95 is also closed. Traffic is grinding to a halt for southbound traffic.
-- All lanes of U.S. 301 South are now closed just south of Excalibur Road.
-- An accident on I-270 North before Montrose Road has closed the right shoulder.
-- The Southern Avenue closure remains in place at Pennsylvania Avenue. The District Department of Transportation recommends this alternate route: Take Alabama Avenue SE west, as the neighborhood streets off of Southern Avenue SE don't have the capacity for the amount of traffic Southern Avenue usually holds.
6:10 A.M. UPDATE:
-- MARC Brunswick Line train 870 will run about 30 to 40 minutes behind due to delays in the Silver Spring area.
-- District and Prince George's County police activity in the 4000 block of Southern Avenue in Southeast has closed that stretch of the roadway in both directions. This is obviously a highly-trafficked street, so avoid that area if humanly possible. (It's right at the Maryland/District line, where Southern Avenue crosses Pennsylvania Avenue.)
-- There's an accident at 14th and Euclid streets in Northwest that might cause delays.
-- A disabled vehicle is blocking one I-495 Outer Loop merge lane before New Hampshire Avenue.
ORIGINAL POST:
-- MARC riders taking the Brunswick Line might see delays between the Kensington and Silver Spring stations due to a signal problem. Due to the possible delays, Metro will honor MARC tickets, the Maryland Transit Administration reports.
-- There's a disabled car in the 9th Street Tunnel in the District. Direction is unknown, but be aware if you're heading in that direction.
-- An accident on U.S. 301 South to the south of Excalibur Road has closed one of the southbound lanes and one of the southbound shoulders.
