Big delays on I-495 North
Here's a roundup of the rush hour issues facing commuters this morning. This post will be updated.
8:35 A.M. UPDATE:
-- Traffic and congestion continue on I-495 North and I-66 East, lasting through the morning rush. If you haven't left yet and can avoid those major roadways, it's highly recommended.
-- Traffic is also very heavy on I-395 North at the 14th Street Bridge.
-- There's a disabled car in the road on MD 5 North at U.S. 301.
-- An accident on I-95 at the Woodrow Wilson Bridge (on the Maryland side) is on the shoulder.
-- There's an accident on Michigan Avenue and North Capitol Street in Northeast.
-- An accident at Brandywine Street and Connecticut Ave in Northwest could cause some delays.
8:05 A.M. UPDATE:
-- Traffic remains heavy on I-495 North and I-66 East. The earlier I-66 East accident has been moved to the shoulder, but delays are still rampant.
-- An accident on 33rd and Bangor streets in Southeast might slow down traffic.
-- The accident on I-95/Inner Loop, to the south of Ritchie Marlboro Road, has been cleared up. So has the accident on I-95 South before the I-495 split in Prince George's.
7:45 A.M. UPDATE:
-- Traffic remains heavy on I-495 North and I-66 East. Not helping things -- an accident on I-66 East after Nutley Street that has closed the right eastbound lane. (The residual delays on I-495 North and the usual sluggishness of I-395 North have also caused I-95 North traffic to slow down at Newington.)
-- There's an accident on 12th Street and Constitution Avenue in Northeast.
-- On I-395 North at Maine Avenue in Southwest, a disabled vehicle is blocking the left lane.
-- An accident on the Suitland Parkway and Stanton Road in Southeast might slow down traffic.
-- An accident on I-95/Inner Loop, to the south of Ritchie Marlboro Road, has closed one inner loop lane and one inner loop shoulder.
-- An accident on I-95 South before the I-495 split in Prince George's County could cause problems for southbound traffic, so be wary.
7:25 A.M. UPDATE:
-- While the accident itself has been cleared up, the residual delays are widespread. Traffic is backed up on I-495 North from the site of the earlier accident and almost as far back as the Springfield Interchange. And on I-66 East, traffic is backed up as far back as the Fairfax County Parkway.
-- An accident on the Southeast Freeway in the District has closed two right westbound lanes.
7:05 A.M. UPDATE:
Traffic is slowed and sluggish on I-495 North as far back as Braddock Road, according to the live footage available via the traffic cameras. Things appear to be the most congested at Arlington Boulevard and I-66, while once you pass I-66 things are not at so much of a standstill. However, this is also causing related delays on I-66 East at the Beltway -- always a slow spot, made worse when traffic is having a problem getting onto the Beltway.
6:50 A.M/ UPDATE:
A tractor trailer accident on I-495 North at Route 7/Leesburg Pike has closed the left center lane, right center lane, right lane and right shoulder. Traffic is getting by in the left lane.
6:25 A.M. UPDATE:
-- Traffic is building on I-95 North heading towards the Springfield Interchange, with the traffic getting pretty heavy as you approach it.
-- I-395 North is also pretty congested by Duke Street as well as at Seminary Road.
-- The lanes of I-95 North, closed for roadwork at MD 212, have reopened.
ORIGINAL POST:
-- There's congestion on I-395 North at Seminary Road.
-- Traffic is getting heavy on I-66 East at Chain Bridge Road.
-- Roadwork has closed two lanes of I-95 North at MD 212.
