Morning commute watch

Preparing for your first trip to work for an extra dime? Excited for the temperature to top 50 degrees? Either way, here's a roundup of what commuters should know this morning...

9:30 A.M.: The accident on I-270 South before I-370 involved five vehicles and two lanes of I-270 remain closed (plus one of the shoulders).... The 2500 block of M Street in Northwest might be congested due to fire and emergency activity... A multi-vehicle accident on I-495 North at Chain Bridge Road has closed the right shoulder. ... Avoid the 1300 block of Saratoga Avenue in Northeast, also due to fire and emergency activity... There's a disabled automobile on 295 North at Nannie Helen Burroughs Avene in Northeast.

9:10 A.M.: There's a disabled vehicle on the Teddy Roosevelt Bridge in the right lane of the outbound section... An accident on I-270 South before I-370 has closed two lanes... An accident on I-495/Outer Loop at Connecticut Avenue might also close up some lanes.

9 A.M.: More for VRE riders -- train 310 is running 20 minutes late due to the mechanical problems faced by train 308 earlier this morning. The next station for train 310 is Lorton.

8:45 A.M.: Fire and emergency activity on the 1200 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Northwest might block lanes, so avoid that area... the Red Line delays are cleared up... once I-395 North hits King Street, it's quite congested.

8:30 A.M.: I-495 North is backed up for several miles leading up to I-66, while on I-495 South a disabled vehicle at I-66 has closed the right shoulder... Red Line delays continue in both directions from Rockville.

8:15 A.M.: The train malfunction at Rockville has been fixed, but there are still delays in both directions on the Red Line from that station.... An accident has been reported on I-495/Outer Loop at Georgia Avenue... Police and fire department activity in the 700 block of 12th Street in Southeast mean you should avoid driving through that area, lest you face lane closures or blockages.

8:10 A.M.: VRE update -- trains 308 and 310 have coupled and are moving. This basically means that train 308 is canceled and train 310 is running 15 minutes late. There also might be extra delays on the way because they need to make double stops for this twice-as-long train.

7:50 A.M.: Some more issues for VRE riders this morning. Train 308 (scheduled to leave Fredericksburg at 7:15 a.m.) stopped at Fredericksburg due to mechanical problems and is expected to have a 50 minute delay. Train 310 (scheduled to leave Fredericksburg at 7:50 a.m.) will couple with train 308. This means a 15 to 20 minute delay for train 310.

Meanwhile, VRE tickets can be used to gain entry on the Metro at the Franconia-Springfield and King Street stations.

7:40 A.M.: An accident has closed the right off ramp on I-495/Outer Loop at New Hampshire Avenue/MD 650....Red Line delays in both directions due to a train malfunction at Rockville. Trains are sharing the same track between Shady Grove and Twinbrook stations.

7:20 A.M.: There's a disabled automobile at 9th and K streets in Northwest... A disabled vehicle on I-495 North at I-66 has closed the Beltway's right lane and will cause a wee bit of massive gridlock.

6:55 A.M.: A collision on I-270 South at W. Montgomery Avenue has closed one of the southbound shoulders... A disabled vehicle on I-495 South at Braddock Road closed the south left shoulder as well... Also on I-495 South, traffic is backed up at Gallows Road.

6:35 A.M.: There's a disabled vehicle on the 14th Street Bridge (heading southbound), so if you're heading into Virginia be prepared for possible delays.... An accident on I-270 South before Falls Road might mean closed lanes on I-270 South.... Traffic on I-66 East is packed from the Beltway and lasting for miles... MARC Penn Line train 509 left Martins Airport 22 minutes late due to a medical emergency.

6:20 A.M.: Congestion on I-395 North has crowded that roadway from the 14th Street Bridge back to King Street.

6:05 A.M.: Fire department activity on the 700 block of Park Road in Northwest is clogging up and possibly closing lanes, so try to avoid driving through that stretch.

5:55 A.M.: There's been a reported power outage at the Franconia/Springfield station, according to VRE. Elevators, communication signs and ticket vending machines are all not functioning. More information as we get it.

5:40 A.M.: A disabled vehicle on I-495 South at Chain Bridge Road has closed the south right lane.
