Morning commute watch
Good morning, commuters! Here's your daily roundup of the morning rush hour -- the hiccups, the snags, the snafus and the problems...
-- Delays and congestion on I-95 South/the Beltway at U.S. 1/Richmond Highway in Alexandria.
-- Delays and sluggishness on I-395 North are persisting for much of the roadway.
-- And another block in Northeast to avoid -- the 3700 block of 10th Street NE has police and fire activity. This joins the 1000 block of 12th Street NE, which also has fire department activity.
-- There's an accident at 9th Street and Brentwood Avenue in Northeast. (This is on the same stretch that had all of the closures, this one in particular on Brentwood Avenue between New York and Rhode Island avenues.)
-- On I-95 South/the Beltway at U.S. 1/Richmond Highway, a multi-vehicle accident has closed the left lane and left shoulder of the express lane.
-- More traffic in Northeast Washington: police and fire activity on the 1000 block of 12th Street NE means trekking through that stretch will be troublesome.
-- Tenleytown Metro station's escalators are back up and running.
-- I-66 East is very backed up leading to the Beltway.
-- I-395 North has congestion leading to the 14th Street Bridge and at King Street.
-- The Tenleytown Metro station's escalators remain out of service.
-- There's an accident in the 600 block of Morton Street in Northwest, but it's off the main roadway and shouldn't be causing many delays.
-- Fire department activity on the 1400 block of Leegate Road in Northwest could be causing some traffic headaches, so avoid that area.
-- An accident on 295 North at Malcolm X Avenue in Southeast is on the shoulder, but could still cause some delays.
-- The earlier collision on MD 295 South to the south of I-95 has been moved to the shoulder.
-- Traffic is packed on I-395 North from the 14th Street Bridge back to the Beltway. Be wary of congestion and a slow trek.
-- An accident on MD 295 South at I-95 will delay traffic in the southbound lanes.
-- There's debris in the road on I-270 North before Shady Grove Road.
-- An accident on I-66 East shortly before the Beltway has closed the right shoulder, but is still causing delays on the already-packed roadway.
-- Traffic is already backed up on the 14th Street Bridge.
-- There's a disabled vehicle on I-95 South/the Beltway near Richmond Highway/U.S. 1. The right shoulder is closed, but still be wary of delays.
-- Fire department activity has rendered the 900 Block of 25th Street NW inhospitable for drivers, so avoid it if you can.
-- Northeast remains a hub of traffic issues, with the accident investigation on 9th Street closing swatches of Brentwood Road, the 1800 block of 9th Street and the eastbound and westbound 9th Street ramps.
-- And adding to the problems in Northeast, there's also an accident reported at the intersection of South Dakota Avenue and V Street. Yes, that's immediately after New York Avenue/50 enters the District, and that's immediately before the closed stretches of 9th Street and Brentwood. So it's a bad driving area right now.
6:35 A.M.: A lot of problems in Northeast Washington, creating multiple backup points for drivers heading into the District from Maryland. An accident has resulted in blocked lanes and an investigation closing multiple lanes.
-- An accident has blocked lanes on New York and Montana avenues in Northeast. (They intersect right after 50 crosses into the District, so if you're heading westbound on 50 from Maryland, expect delays.)
-- Brentwood Road in Northeast is closed from V Street to Mount Olivet Road. (This passes New York Avenue just to the west of the New York and Montana avenues intersection.) This is owing to an accident investigation.
-- The 9th Street ramps are closed in both directions, east and west, as well as the 1800 block of 9th street Northeast. This is also due to the accident investigation.
-- And on another note, there's a disabled car reported in the 3rd Street Tunnel.
-- All entrance escalators are out of service at the Tenleytown Metro station (related).
-- There's a disabled car in the road on I-495/Outer Loop at the American Legion Bridge (on the Montgomery County side).
-- Similarly, the disabled vehicle is causing problems on I-495 South on the other side of the American Legion Bridge (the Virginia side, just before I-495 South hits G.W. Parkway). The right lane of I-495 South is closed just after the bridge.
-- Traffic is backed up on I-66 East from Chain Bridge Road.
