Delays on Bay Bridge

4:45 p.m. update: Two-way operations will not be put into effect Thursday afternoon on the Bay Bridge, because of high winds. This will cause traffic delays.

Original post
Today and Friday, the center lane of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge's westbound span will be closed intermittently during rush hours for preservation work. Intermittent two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during those hours to ease traffic delays, which are likely to occur in both directions.

When two-way operations are in effect, three lanes will carry eastbound traffic (two lanes on the eastbound span and one lane on the westbound span) and one lane will carry westbound traffic (the right lane of the westbound span), the Maryland Transportation Authority says.

Police will strictly enforce the westbound bridge's speed limit of 45 mph during normal operation and 40 mph during two-way operation.

For an update on conditions, call 1-877-BAYSPAN.
