Headaches on the horizon

Telegraph Road night work
In a previous posting, I warned drivers about the delays likely this weekend on the Capital Beltway's outer loop in Virginia near the Wilson Bridge. But there's a related project starting in the same neighborhood Sunday night. This other work at the Telegraph Road interchange will have a significant impact on traffic throughout the week.

As part of the Wilson Bridge project, contractors will demolish bridge girders and complete grading throughout the interchange. Here's the schedule on the lane and ramp closings for the Beltway and Telegraph Road.

Inner loop (I-95-495 South)
From 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday, traffic will be narrowed to one lane between the Metro overpass and the Beltway bridge over Cameron Run. Crews will start reducing lanes at 8 p.m. and complete the lane closings by 9 p.m. Full closings of the inner loop lasting up to 20 minutes are possible after midnight.

Outer loop (I-95/495 North)
Each night, between 9 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, both exits from the outer loop to Telegraph Road will be closed for paving. Detour: Continue on outer loop to Route 1 to Huntington Avenue, then to Telegraph Road North or South.

Telegraph Road
Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon,
Telegraph Road North will be narrowed to one lane between Huntington Avenue and Pershing Avenue. The ramp from Telegraph Road North to the outer loop will be closed for roadway construction. Detour: Traffic should take the ramp from Telegraph Road North to the inner loop to the ramp at Telegraph Road South to the outer loop.

Each night from 9 p.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. Friday, Telegraph Road North and South will be narrowed to one lane between Huntington Avenue and Pershing Avenue. The ramp from Telegraph Road North to the inner loop will be closed for roadway construction. Detour: Traffic should take the ramp from the turn right onto Pershing Avenue, left on Stovall Street, left at Mill Road to Telegraph Road South to the inner loop ramp.
