Headaches on the horizon

Several overnight closings are planned for various points on the Capital Beltway. On Metro, there are late-night delays on most lines.

Beltway HOT lanes project
These closings are scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday:
-- I-495 west (inner loop) will close at Exit 169 B/A (Route 644) for steel beam erection.
-- Three right lanes and the collector-distributor roadway on I-495 north (inner loop) at Exit 52 (Little River Turnpike) will close for bridge demolition.
-- A right lane of I-495 south (outer loop) at Exit 46 (Route 123) will close for sign removal.
-- Three right lanes of I-495 south (outer loop) at Exit 51 (Gallows Road) will close for removal of an overhang. There will be full closings of the outer loop for up to half an hour after midnight.

Md. Beltway closing
Late-night drivers could find as many as three right lanes on northbound I-95/I-495 (the outer loop) closed from Thursday night into Friday morning. The Maryland State Highway Administration will be continuing repairs on the Maryland 201 (Kenilworth Avenue) bridge over the Beltway in Greenbelt.

At 10 p.m., the two right lanes under the bridge are scheduled to close. Between midnight and 5 a.m. Friday, drivers may encounter three closed lanes. All lanes will be open by 5 a.m. This past weekend, workers began these repairs to the bridge by adding plates to strengthen one of the beams.

Metrorail night work
Red Line trains are sharing a single track after 10 p.m. between Medical Center and Friendship Heights. On the Blue and Orange lines, single tracking will occur after 10 p.m. between Federal Center and Eastern Market. On the Yellow Line, the single tracking after 10 p.m. occurs between Pentagon City and L'Enfant Plaza.

Roosevelt Bridge repair
The District plans to do overnight repair work on ramps on the D.C. side of the Roosevelt Bridge beginning Thursday night and continuing through Tuesday night. One travel lane per ramp will be closed after the evening's rush period and re-opened each day before the morning rush.
