Headaches on the horizon
The baseball traffic has cleared out, but these work zones could slow your travels overnight.
Beltway HOT lanes
Unless otherwise noted, these closings are scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Lanes closed
-- Three right lanes will be closed on I-495 north at Little River Turnpike (Route 236)
-- Two left lanes will be closed on Arlington Boulevard (Route 50) east and west at I-495 for demolition work. Full stoppages of traffic lasting about 30 minutes should be expected after midnight.
-- The right lane will be closed on Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) north at Tysons Boulevard while crews perform directional drilling.
Road closed
-- I-495 west (inner loop) will close at Exit 169 B/A Springfield Franconia (Route 644) for steel beam erection. Through traffic will be directed to take Exit 170, to I-395 north to Exit 2B, Edsall Road west, stay to the right following signs for I-395 south and take Exit 1C to I-495 north (inner loop).This work will begin at 9 p.m.
Ramps closed
-- The ramp from I-495 north to Little River Turnpike (Route 236) and the collector distributor road on I-495 north will be closed overnight. Traffic to Route 236 west will go farther north on I-495 to Exit 51, Gallows Road, left at the top of the exit ramp and follow signs to I-495 South to Exit 52A, Route 236 west.
-- The ramp from Route 236 east to I-495 north will be closed. Traffic to I-495 north will be directed to I-495 south, to Exit 54B, Braddock Road east (Route 620), stay to the right and get back to I-495 north.
-- The ramp from the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) east to I-495 south will be closed. Traffic to I-495 south will continue on the Dulles Connector Road to Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) south, and follow signs to I-495 south.
11th Street Bridge
Watch for off-peak lane closings this week on the inbound bridge and adjacent portions of DC 295/I-295. From 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, closings may include one lane and the shoulder in each direction of DC 295/I-295 between Pennsylvania Avenue and Howard Road.
Beltway ramp work
The Wilson Bridge project this week will finish up overnight demolition of the old ramp from the Capital Beltway outer loop (I-95/495 north) to Telegraph Road north. Additional closings also are scheduled throughout the Telegraph Road interchange to prepare for a weekend traffic switch on the outer loop.
There will be some overnight lane closings for safety while contractors remove girders and saw and lift portions of the remaining ramp.
