Major MARC delays

Here's a look at the traffic issues commuters are facing during this morning's rush hour:

9 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on the Dulles Toll Road near the ramp to I-66 West is blocking the left westbound shoulder.

-- The left lane remains closed on I-95 North/the Beltway at Telegraph Road.

-- An accident on I-395 North at King Street is blocking the right shoulder of the on-ramp to I-395 North.

-- Congestion remains heavy on I-495 North at I-66

8:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The MD 295 North accident at I-95 has been cleared up and the merge lane reopened.

-- The accident on MD 214/Central Avenue is still blocking one of the westbound lanes at I-95.

-- More MARC delays. On the Penn Line, train 417 was supposed to leave Baltimore for the District at 8:10 a.m.; it left Baltimore 16 minutes late. Again, as the Maryland Transit Administration Web site reminds you: Amtrak train 172 will take passengers from Baltimore to Perryville, while Amtrak train 183 will take passengers from Perryville to Baltimore.

-- The I-395 North lanes at Glebe Road have finally reopened.

-- However, the left lane of I-95 North/the Beltway remains closed at Telegraph Road.

8:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on MD 295 North at I-95 North is blocking the northbound right merge lane.

-- An accident on MD 214/Central Avenue at I-95 is blocking one of the westbound traffic lanes.

-- The left lane of I-95 North/the Beltway at Telegraph Road remains closed due to the earlier accident.

-- Traffic is very backed up on I-495 North leading to I-66.

8 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on I-95 North/the Beltway at Telegraph Road has closed the left lane.

-- The I-395 North lanes have reopened at Duke Street. However, the right lane and right shoulder remain closed at Glebe Road.

7:45 A.M. UPDATE:

Delays continue on MARC's Penn Line, according to the Maryland Transit Administration. Train 407 is running 50 minutes late, while train 411 is running 20 minutes late. Train 506, heading north, is running 10 to 12 minutes away.

Meanwhile, train 406 -- heading from the District to Baltimore -- was canceled. Train 506, normally scheduled to go from the District to Perryville, will instead terminate at Baltimore (where it's regularly scheduled to arrive at 8 a.m.). It will then turn into train 417, which is scheduled to leave Baltimore heading to the District at 8:10 a.m. So riders hoping to take train 506 from Baltimore to Perryville will instead be taking Amtrak train 172. Similarly, train 521 -- scheduled to leave Perryville at 9:01 a.m., heading southbound for the District -- has been canceled from Perryville to Baltimore. Those passengers will instead be taking Amtrain train 183.

For more, here's the MARC site so you can keep tabs on delays or check schedules.

7:35 A.M. UPDATE:

The lane closures on I-395 North continue at Duke Street and Glebe Road. Expect big delays and backups, possibly spreading to the Springfield Interchange.

7:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- There's debris in the road on U.S. 50 West before MD 197, which could cause delays for westbound travelers.

-- Another accident on I-395 North -- this one at Duke Street -- is going to cause problems. The accident has blocked the left lane and center lane.

-- The accident on I-395 North at Glebe Road is still blocking the right lane and right shoulder.

6:50 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on I-395 North at Glebe Road is blocking the right lane and right shoulder.

-- I-495 North is congested at Gallows Road.

-- The I-66 East shoulder remains closed at Sudley Road.

6:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- MARC Penn Line train 405 is running about 25 to 30 minutes late and making all stops. Penn Line train 407 will be leaving Baltimore about 20 to 25 minutes late, contradicting an earlier e-mail alert sent out by the Maryland Transit Administration stating that train 407 would operate on time.

-- The I-66 East accident at Sudley Road is now just blocking the shoulder. Expect delays.

6:20 A.M. UPDATE:

MARC Penn Line train 405 (scheduled to depart Baltimore heading southbound at 5:52 a.m.) is still having mechanical issues. But Penn Line train 407 (scheduled to depart Baltimore in the same direction at 6:17 a.m.) is going to run on schedule, according to the Maryland Transit Administration. It's supposed to arrive at Union Station at 7:09 a.m.

ORIGINAL POST:

-- A pair of MARC train delays: Brunswick Line train 890 is running about 15 minutes late (heading towards the Dickerson station). Penn Line train 405 is going to head out of Baltimore about 20 minutes late because of mechanical problems.

-- An accident on I-66 East at Sudley Road is blocking the left shoulder, left lane and left center lane. (This is right next to the Manassas Battlefield Park.)

-- An accident on I-95 South just south of the Beltway might slow down traffic.

-- While Friday is Emancipation Day in the District, regular traffic patterns will be in effect. Parking meters will not require payment, except for those around Nationals Park.
