Red Line delays
Here's a roundup of the issues facing commuters this morning:
9:15 A.M. UPDATE:
-- The Red Line is delayed heading towards Glenmont due to an earlier train malfunction at the Van Ness station.
-- There's police and fire activity on the 2500 block of Massachusetts Ave in Northwest, so avoid that area if you can.
-- An accident on I-495 North at Braddock Road is blocking the left shoulder.
-- Traffic remains on I-66 East at Chain Bridge Road and I-395 North at the 14th Street Bridge.
8:40 A.M. UPDATE:
-- Police and fire activity in the 1200 block of Holbrooke Street in Northeast could slow traffic in that area.
-- There's also police and fire activity at 6th Street and Florida Avenue in Northeast.
-- An accident near 2300 Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast could also slow traffic around that area.
-- An accident on I-495/Outer Loop before U.S. 29 is blocking the right shoulder.
-- Delays on I-66 East at Chain Bridge Road are still evident, but not as bad as they were earlier in the morning.
-- Delays are still bad on I-495 North at I-66. And I-395 North at the 14th Street Bridge and throughout much of that roadway.
8:15 A.M. UPDATE:
-- The accident on 14th and Arkansas streets in Northwest involved two vehicles and occurred at 7:56 a.m., according to District police. There are injuries, but the severity is not known at this time.
8:10 A.M. UPDATE:
-- An accident on 14th and Arkansas streets in Northwest could cause major traffic jams in that area, so avoid it if you can.
-- There's also an accident on 14th and Allison streets in Northwest, two blocks away from the accident at 14th and Arkansas.
-- Traffic is very congested on I-495 North at I-66, I-66 East at Nutley Street and I-395 North throughout much of that roadway.
7:45 A.M. UPDATE:
-- An accident on I-66 East shortly before the Beltway has closed the center and right lanes. It is causing the already-crowded roadway to slow down even more. Expect big backups.
-- An accident on I-95 North at Telegraph Road has blocked the left shoulder.
-- There's traffic on I-95 North leading up to the Springfield Interchange.
-- Police and fire activity on the 1300 block of New York Avenue in Northeast could cause delays. Ditto the 800 block of Southern Avenue in Southeast, 1100 block of Alabama Avenue in Southeast and the 4200 block of 4th Street in Southeast.
7:15 A.M. UPDATE:
-- The Yellow Line delays have been lifted.
-- An accident on Dulles Toll Road/267 East near the ramp to Route 123 has closed the left outside lane and left shoulder. Yes, more delays for the area that had such a bad morning yesterday.
-- Major traffic on I-395 North at King Street and the 14th Street Bridge.
-- Also major traffic on I-495 North leading to I-66.
-- An accident on I-495 South at I-66 has blocked the right lane and right shoulder.
-- Police and fire activity on the 3500 block of Stanton Road in Southeast, as well as New York and Fairview avenues in Northeast, could slow traffic in those areas.
6:45 A.M. UPDATE:
-- Delays continue on the Yellow Line in both directions from Huntington.
-- There's a disabled vehicle on I-95 South at MD 212, blocking one lane.
-- The roadwork on I-95 South and I-270 North has cleared, and the lanes have reopened.
-- There's police and fire activity in the 2100 block of 4th Street in Northwest.
-- Heavy traffic on I-66 East at Chain Bridge Road.
-- There's also congestion on I-395 North from Seminary Road back to the interchange.
6:15 A.M. UPDATE:
-- There are delays on the Yellow Line stemming from a switch malfunction at the Huntington station. The delays are in both directions from Huntington.
-- A disabled car on I-66 East at the Beltway could cause delays.
-- MD 212 South has reopened.
-- Roadwork is also closing one lane of I-95 South at John Hanson Highway.
-- A disabled vehicle on I-495 North at Braddock Road is blocking the right shoulder.
-- MD 212 South is closed at Old Gunpowder Road.
-- Roadwork has closed two lanes of I-270 North at Muddy Branch Road to Middlebrook Road.
-- Roadwork has also closed one lane of I-95 South at MD 198.
