MetroAccess driver arrested

4: P.M. UPDATE: According to a Metro press release, the alleged sexual assault took place in Prince George's County on Jan. 28.

Metro Transit Police arrested Castillo Thursday in Gaithersburg and transferred him to Prince George's County, the release said.

Metro officials said Castillo worked for Challenger Transportation, a subcontractor of MV Transportation, the contractor that provides MetroAccess transportation, a service for the elderly and the disabled.

Metro's release said Castillo was hired May 5 and underwent a background check, which he passed. The background check did not reveal any "previous felony convictions or misdemeanors of a violent or sexual nature," the statement said. Castillo was suspended Jan. 30 after the report of the assault and fired Thursday, Metro said.

A second MetroAccess driver was fired Feb. 4 in connection with a second alleged assault that took place at Sixth Street and Brentwood in Northeast Washington. The U.S. attorney's office declined to prosecute that case, Metro said.

3:44 P.M. UPDATE: Castillo is from Gaithersburg, not Potomac.

At a subsidized $100 each way for these people, maybe they should follow the buddy system and have two drivers.
