Red Line trains running slower

8 P.M. UPDATE: Metro says service is running on time, but keep in mind that trains on the western end of the Red Line are operating under speed restrictions due to the discovery Wedneday morning of a cracked rail near Woodley Park Station in the direction of Glenmont.

5:35 P.M. UPDATE: Metro says the problems on the Orange, Yellow and Blue lines have been resolved, but delays continue.

5:25 P.M. UPDATE: There are now delays on the Blue and Yellow lines in the direction of Mount Vernon Square and Largo stations due to a sick customer at Pentagon Station.

5:20 P.M. UPDATE: Metro reports that there is a track problem outside the East Falls Church Station, which is slowing the Orange Line. We're checking to see if this is a cracked rail, too, or something else.

5:10 P.M. UPDATE: Red Line trains are operating at reduced speeds near Woodley Park station due to a cracked rail that was discovered at about 10:30 am today in the direction of Glenmont. A temporary brace was put in place on the cracked portion, which will be replaced with a new piece of track overnight tonight, according to Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein.

We're still awaiting word on just how slowly trains are moving. Are you delaing with the delays? E-mail us at

I like to ride the bus unless there is gridlock! Great views of the monuments and no risk of being stuck in a tunnel while squeezed in like sardines! Of course, I'm only a mile from the Key Bridge so that helps.

Saw a mostly empty 8 car blue train tonight while waiting 10 minutes for a 6 car orange train.

Heckuva Job Metro!

I drove home with the A/C on, listening to my iPod, and had almost no traffic. My sympathies to the over-cooked sardines on Metro.
