Today's read: Traffic getting worse?

Yes, but wait: Although travelers surveyed for a Post transportation poll overwhelmingly think things are getting worse, when compared to responses in the 2005 poll, there has been a significant drop in the number who say they are "much worse." (Ashley Halsey III and Jennifer Agiesta)

What do you make of that? Has the recession dampened traffic? Has there been a decline in road work? Or are we just getting used to this? The poll suggests that people are engaged in self-help programs, like telecommuting or moving to get closer to work.

See other stories from the poll:
-- Worries about distracted driving.
-- Metro still gets good marks, but sees some slippage.
