Va. reopens last closed rest areas

All Virginia highway rest areas that were closed last year due to funding cuts have been reopened.

Gov. Bob McDonnell says the final seven rest areas were back in business Wednesday.

McDonnell's predecessor, Tim Kaine, ordered 19 rest areas and welcome centers closed in July, but McDonnell reversed that and hoped all would reopen by April 15.

McDonnell said reopening the facilities was important to tourism and economic development.

I guess they were tired of seeing naked butts while people peed on the side of the road. Dumb donkeys...

Virginia must be in bad shape if all the McDonalds, Starbucks, and gas stations have closed.

I have recently been advised that there is another short fall in the Public School Funding Budget. I have to ask why then have we re-opened the rest areas on our highways. I would like someone to explain to me how the rest areas are more important than our children’s education. I was under the impression that the Students of Today are our Future Leaders. How then are these students going to become leaders if they do not obtain quality education due the mislead priorities of our current leaders. I look forward to hearing how decreasing the public school funding is justified when we have approved funds for rest areas. I am particularly interested as both of my children receive special education and teachers in this area maybe cut due to lack of funding.

Great. Now all McDonnell has to do is fix the roads that get you to the rest stop.

larry craig can't afford to visit airports any more, so these rest stops are vital in providing a place for closeted republicans to cruise for gay sex.

Since VDOT had to lay off 1,500 people at the direction of the GA, who is manning the rest stops? The inmates the Gov. proposed? What kind of PR for VA is that?

Wellsbv ~ didn't you hear? The money came from the woefully underused and overfunded snow removal money. THAT was part of his promise, too.
