Smoke causes Red Line delays

4:45 p.m. Update: The Post's Mark Berman reports that traffic is backed up on Calvert Street in Northwest Washington around the Woodley Park Metro station.

4:23 p.m. Update: Metro is reporting that the problem has been resolved, but expect the delays to take a while to work through the system.

4:20 p.m. Update: Crews are also staging along the 1500 block of 20th Street NW.

4:15 p.m. Update: D.C. Fire / EMS officials said the smoke may be originating with an insulator along the tracks. According to a tweet from officials, crews are staging in the 2600 block of Connecticut Avenue to investogate. This may cause traffic issues on Connecticut.

Original post: Inbound and outbound trains are sharing the same track between Dupont Circle and Van Ness stations due to smoke outside Dupont Circle.

In the middle of the p.m. rush hour, commuters can expect significant delays along the Red Line as crews investigate the smoke.

I smelled smoke on Sunday night as I was traveling from Dupont Circle to Woodley Park. Everyone else could smell it too, but I was the only one who got off the train. Doesn't surprise me that the issue came up again.

So the redline had delays for both the morning and evening rush hour. Is this the definition of premium service? If I have to pay peak of the peak fares can they at least get a driver who does not jerk the train around? Packed in like cattle and I am ready to vomit from the rough ride.
