Headaches on the horizon

Work in Virginia, Maryland and the District could slow your travels overnight. (If there's a construction project you're curious about, send a note to me at drgridlock@washpost.com.)

Virginia
All this work is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Beltway HOT lanes
-- Three right lanes and the collector distributor road of Interstate 495 south at Little River Turnpike (Route 236) will close for bridge demolition. After midnight, watch for full closings of the outer loop for up to half an hour.
-- Three left lanes of I-495 south at Braddock Road (Route 62) will close for demolition preparation.
-- Two right lanes of I-395 north at I-495 will close for steel beam erection.
-- I-495 west (the inner loop) will close at Exit 169 B/A (Route 644) for steel beam erection. Watch for detour signs.

I-95 widening project
Two right lanes of I-95 north between Exit 160 (Route 123) and Lorton Road (Route 642) will close for bridge joint repair.

Dulles Metrorail project
Here are a few delays related to the rail project:

-- Very late Tuesday and early Wednesday, all lanes of the Dulles Toll Road and the Dulles Access Road will be temporarily closed four times just east of the Hunter Mill Road interchange. At 11 p.m. police will begin setting barriers and tapering off the lanes leading to the full closures. Traffic will be stopped for 15-minute intervals between midnight and 2:45 a.m. The closings will allow Dominion Virginia Power to remove old utility lines.
-- Drivers should expect delays each night through Saturday along Route 7 eastbound from the Dulles Toll Road to Spring Hill Road. The two left through lanes and the right-most left turn lane onto Spring Hill Road are likely to be closed.
-- Drivers also will experience delays on Route 606 (Old Ox Road) on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. This is along the western edge of Dulles International Airport in Loudoun County. The work requires a flagging operation that will close the northbound lane of Old Ox Road, but traffic will be allowed to pass through the area.

The District
Ohio Drive
From 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. each night through Thursday, you may find Ohio Drive closed from 23rd Street and Independence Avenue to the ramp to Lincoln Memorial Circle. Also, Old Constitution Avenue may be closed from the ramp to Lincoln Memorial Circle to Rock Creek Parkway. (Old Constitution is the roadway just south of Constitution Avenue where it meets the Roosevelt Bridge. Look at the map on this earlier posting.)

Maryland
Maryland 201/Beltway
Drivers may find the shoulders closed on the Beltway as crews work on the Kenilworth Avenue (MD 201) bridge above. There may be temporary lane closings on both Kenilworth and the Beltway.

Metrorail
Metro is working on four lines during the night this week.

Red Line: From 10 p.m. till the midnight closing each night through Thursday, riders between Medical Center and Friendship Heights should add at least half an hour to their normal travel times. Workers are replacing old rail fasteners to stabilize the tracks.
Blue/Orange lines: After 10 each night through Thursday, add at least 20 minutes to travel time between Federal Center and Eastern Market. Workers are upgrading track circuits.
Yellow Line: After 11 each night through Thursday, add at least 20 minutes to travel time between Pentagon City and L'Enfant Plaza. Workers are replacing rail fasteners.
