Headaches on the horizon
Nice night for road work. Here's what's going on.
The two right lanes on northbound I-95/I-495 (outer loop) in the Greenbelt area are scheduled to close between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. This is a new phase in the bridge maintenance project that began in late April.
Beltway HOT lanes
This work is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
-- Three left lanes of I-495 north (inner loop) at I-66 will close for steel beam erection.
-- A single left lane of I-495 south (outer loop) at I-395 will close for steel beam erection. Expect full roadway closures up to half an hour may occur after midnight.
-- I-495 west (inner loop) will close at Exit 169 B/A (Route 644) for steel beam erection.
Drivers who use Magarity Road in the McLean/Falls Church/Tysons area will encounter significant delays. The road is scheduled to close between Olney Road and Great Falls Street from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
During the closing, steel will be erected on a new bridge that will carry tracks for the Dulles Metrorail line in the median of the Dulles Connector Road across Magarity Road, which runs north-south parallel to Route 123 from Great Falls Street to Route 7. On these nights, all side streets south of the Dulles Connector Road along Magarity will be open.
This work also will occur between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m.
-- Two lanes of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east from the Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) to Spring Hill Road will close for utility work.
-- A single left lane of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west from Westpark Drive to Spring Hill Road will close for utility work.
-- A single left lane of Dolley Madison Boulevard (Route 123) north between Old Meadow Road and Anderson Rd. will close for utility work.
The bridge is scheduled to open at 8:15 p.m. Thursday.
I-95 widening work
The replacement of an overhead sign structure that I told you was scheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday nights has been postponed. When it does happen, probably in June, it will cause significant overnight delays on southbound I-95 around Lorton, so when I get exact dates, I'll post a new warning.
