Headaches on the horizon

No more than a passing shower is likely to bother travelers Monday night, says the Capital Weather Gang. But that means plenty of work zones will be set up across the D.C. region.

Beltway HOT lanes
These closings are scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Tuesday. See an overview of the spring-summer work.

-- Three left lanes of I-495 north at I-66 will close for steel beam erection.
-- Three lanes of I-495 south at Gallows Road (Route 650) will close for bridge demolition. Expect full roadway closures up to 30 minutes after midnight.

Beltway/Prince George's
The Maryland State Highway Administration is resurfacing 4.6 miles of the Beltway's outer loop between Branch Avenue and D'Arcy Road. The project also includes a half-mile of Pennsylvania Avenue between the Beltway and Old Marlboro Pike/Westphalia Road and the exit ramp from Forestville Road to the outer loop.

Watch for single lane closings on the Beltway from 8 to 9 p.m. and then double lane closings from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night through Thursday. On Pennsylvania Avenue, watch for double lane closings from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night through Thursday.

Comments

Saw a sign on Pennsylvania Avenue saying something like it was closing the ramp from P. Avenue to North bound on the beltway starting on Thursday. Is this true and if so for how long and what is a possible way around this?

Dr G:

I saw no evidence of repaving on chain bridge. What exactly was down to the bridge surface other than removing the concrete barriers?

-------
Chain Bridge
The bridge is scheduled to close completely this weekend. Workers will remove the concrete barriers, repave the bridge deck and restripe the three lanes.
