Metro announces bus detours

Several D.C. events will require detours on four Metrobus routes, starting today.

Routes P1, P2 and P6: Because of activities involved in Public Service Recognition Week, the northbound buses are now detouring at 4th Street and Independence Avenue SW. Southbound buses are detouring at Pennsylvania Avenue and 4th Street NW. Detours will continue until 7 p.m. Sunday, Metro says.

Route L2: The southbound buses will detour from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursdays at H Street and Vermont Avenue NW, and return to the route between I and K streets during the weekly farmers' market. This detour will occur every Thursday until Nov. 18. You may remember it from last year. It also causes some traffic congestion on the streets north of the White House.

The post breakdown of upcoming Beltway HOT Lane disruptions from Saturday 4/24 was a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, too much emphasis was made on Little River Turnpike affects and not enough discussion of impacts from bridge closures at Idylwood Road and the W&OD Bike Trail. These are imminent in the next 4 weeks.
