NB B-W Pkwy closed in Prince George's

UPDATE 5:10p.m. The suspect was taken into custody in Howard County, but the area of the B-W Parkway that motorists headed north will likely want to avoid now stretches as far south as its intersection with the Capital Beltway.

UPDATE 4:30p.m. The serious accident involving a trapped motorist in the woods near the NASA exit of the B-W parkway is unrelated to the police chase, which ended with a U-Haul-type moving van overturned, police said.

"There were two crashes, one just south of Powder Mill and one next to NASA. We were responding to assist when we came across the rollover just south of 193," the U.S. Park Police's Communications Supervisor Loveland said. Neither the park police nor county police could provide the status of the accident victim, but the Post's compilation of traffic incidents said an emergency helicopter landed there.

Meanwhile, the suspect fleeing in a stolen vehicle appears to have commandeered not only the victim's vehicle, but possessions as well: Police say the perpetrator hijacked a loaded-up moving truck, and the over-sized, boxy truck overturned not long after getting on the parkway.

"A subject on the scene was assaulted and the suspect stole a moving van with the victim's contents in it, and the suspect took off with the van," a P.G. police spokeswoman said. "Officers tried to stop it and it got on the B-W Parkway, and that's when the accident occurred."

UPDATE 3:30p.m. The person whose vehicle was hit into the woods may have died; the parkway is closed to northbound traffic from Waterloo Road with the suspect apparently apprehended at gunpoint near the same road.

Original post: All northbound lanes of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway are closed between Greenbelt Road and Powder Mill Road in Prince George's County after a major police chase just before 3p.m. this afternoon, potentially causing complications for those returning from holiday getaways.

A person attempting to elude police in an allegedly stolen truck hit multiple vehicles on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway before the truck overturned just south of Powder Mill Road in Laurel, and the driver--who was also accused of assault--fled on foot.

The wreckage left in the fleeing motorist's wake included one vehicle that was knocked into the woods, leaving the driver trapped.
