Weekend roadwork planned in D.C.

The orange cones will be out in abundance this weekend as the D.C. Department of Transportation conducts several construction projects that will back up traffic.

A temporary traffic pattern is planned Saturday for southbound Kenilworth Avenue NE (DC 295). Traffic will shift to the left and barriers will be put in place to prepare for construction Saturday on the right side of the roadway. The work is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Northbound drivers will find the far left lane closed for staging contractor equipment and vehicles working on reconstruction of the Eastern Avenue bridge.

DDOT will also close the ramp from northbound I-395 to the 12th Street tunnel this weekend. Also, D Street SW, just east of 12th Street, will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Monday. The closures will allow placement of bridge deck concrete on the ramp to the 12th Street tunnel.

As part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the 14th Street bridges, drivers can expect single lane closures on the southbound bridge this weekend. The left lane of the southbound bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
