Headaches on the horizon

There's only a slight chance of a shower Tuesday night, leading into a sunny and hot Wednesday, the Capital Weather Gang says. Here's a forecast for what travelers will encounter on the roads and rails.

Metrorail night delays
Red Line: Riders between Rhode Island Avenue and Fort Totten should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time from 10 p.m. till the midnight closing each night through Thursday. Workers will be upgrading the surface underneath the tracks. Every other Red Line train traveling toward Glenmont will end its run at Rhode Island Avenue and head back to Shady Grove. This puts more trains in the crowded middle of the line.

Blue Line: Riders between Stadium-Armory and Addison Road should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time from 10 p.m. to closing each night through Thursday. Workers will be replacing the systems that support the concrete slabs underneath the rails.

University Boulevard
Watch for single lane closings between Veirs Mill Road and Arcola Avenue from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights. The work continues between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each weekday.

Rockville Pike/Randolph Road/Montrose Road
Look for single lane closings on both sides of the pike at the interchange construction project weeknights between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., and then again from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday.

I-95 widening
Between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., the two right lanes of I-95 north will close from just north of Exit 161 (Lorton Road) to the Pohick Road overpass for milling, paving, and restriping.

Beltway HOT lanes
This work is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. through 5 a.m.
-- I-495 west (inner loop) will close at Exit 169 B/A (Route 644) for steel beam erection. Through traffic will be directed to take Exit 170, toward I-395 north, then Exit 2B, Edsall Rd. west, staying to the right and following signs for I-395 south and Exit 1C to I-495 north (inner loop).
-- I-495 north at I-66 will close for steel beam erection. Traffic will be directed to take the I-66 west left exit ramp and Exit, 62 (Nutley Street), then stay right following signs to I-66 east and then signs to I-495 north.

Dulles Metrorail project
There's a lot of work scheduled for 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. These are some highlights.
-- The left lane of I-66 east at the Dulles Toll Road (Route 267) will close for lane shift.
-- Multiple lanes on Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east from Spring Hill Road to Chain Bridge Rd.(Route 123) will close for utility work.
-- The left and right turn lanes from Dolley Madison Boulevard (Route 123) north to Colshire Drive will close for utility work.
