Route 123 ramps realigned in Tysons

Beginning at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, all southbound lanes of the Capital Beltway bridge over Route 123 in Tysons Corner will shift onto a new adjacent bridge. The shift will be in place by 5 a.m. Thursday. As a result, exit ramps to Route 123 north and south have been realigned. The segment of Route 123 under the Beltway will be closed one weekend this month to demolish the old bridge.

Va. bonds to help fund Dulles rail

More than $490 million worth of revenue bonds have been sold to help pay for road and transit projects across Virginia. The 25-year bonds sold Wednesday by the Commonwealth Transportation Board will help fund light rail in Norfolk, work on the Dulles Metrorail, rehabilitation of 11 bridges on Interstate 95 in the Richmond District and other projects.

Routing through road work

A Maryland driver who lives near the Wilson Bridge wanted to know the best route to Dulles Airport. He was thinking about all the construction along the Capital Beltway in Virginia. I said that since it was a daytime trip, I'd stick with Wilson Bridge, around the Beltway and out the Dulles Access Road. But I invited your suggestions. Here's one.

Dodging highway work zones

Dear Dr. Gridlock: We live near the Wilson Bridge and have to drive to Dulles Airport. Would we better off to drive via Arlington and Interstate 66 to the Dulles Toll Road and not take the western side of the Beltway and all that construction?

A railroad with no trains?

One agency is building the Metrorail extension to Dulles and another agency will have to operate it. Have they been talking much to each other?
