The Week Ahead
As part of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project, weather permitting, there will be a complete overnight closure of Telegraph Road and associated ramps in the area of the Capital Beltway Interstate 95/495 on Tuesday, October 13 between 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning for bridge construction. Motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes to avoid expected delays. Traffic will be halted in both directions on Telegraph Road between Duke Street and Huntington Avenue for concrete bridge deck pouring. All associated ramps to and from the Capital Beltway I-95/495 South to Telegraph Road will be closed. Motorists traveling from the Inner Loop (I-95/495 South) into the Eisenhower Valley will be able to use the Pershing Avenue exit. Lane Closings at Telegraph Road Interchange
Seems like most of my traffic advisories lately have to do with all the work at Tysons on the western side of the Beltway, but here's a reminder of the continuing work on the eastern side, at Telegraph Road. Starting tonight, there will complete one-way closings this week of Telegraph Road and interchange ramps around the Capital Beltway for bridge construction. This work, which is part of the Wilson Bridge Project, will cause traffic delays. Tonight and Wednesday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night: -- Southbound Telegraph Road between Duke Street and Huntington Avenue will be closed. Detour on Duke Street east to Route 1 South to Huntington Avenue westbound and back to southbound Telegraph Road. -- Traffic in the Eisenhower Valley will be able to use the ramp to reach the Beltway's inner loop from Telegraph Road, but there will be no access from Telegraph Road southbound...

Part of Eisenhower Connector to Reopen Early
What Beltway drivers see now approaching Eisenhower Avenue Connector. (Thomson) The Eisenhower Connector is coming back, or at least the part of it that connects with the Beltway's outer loop. The closure in early July, for deck replacement work that's part of the Wilson Bridge project, broke an important commuter link into Alexandria and disrupted traffic on the Beltway. At the time of the closing, project managers predicted it would remain shut through September. Instead, the reopening will occur over this weekend. It was a combination of quick construction and cooperative weather, said Jenny Rios, spokeswoman for the Wilson Bridge project. By noon Saturday, if the schedule holds, all three lanes of the outer loop will be restored. No more split. (This is the part of the outer loop just after the squeeze down from four to three lanes, which was one of the things that made the temporary...

More Work on Virginia Side of Wilson Bridge
The work zones on the Virginia side of the Wilson Bridge continue to be very active. After 9 o'clock this morning, the two left-turn lanes from Route 1 south onto Fort Hunt Road in Alexandria will be closed to motorists through 5 a.m. Sunday. Workers will be installing overhead signs. Southbound Route 1 traffic heading for Fort Hunt Road will be detoured past the intersection, then will turn left onto Huntington Avenue to the intersection with Fort Hunt Road. Sunday and Tuesday Parts of the Telegraph Road interchange are scheduled to close to all traffic from 11 p.m. to 5 o'clock the following morning on both Sunday night and Tuesday night. During those hours, workers will be placing steel girders. Traffic backups are very likely, and it would be best to avoid the area on those two nights. All ramps between the Beltway and Telegraph Road will be closed with...

More Challenges on Virginia Beltway
There's a lot of information for drivers to absorb on the Beltway's outer loop. (Thomson) The Wilson Bridge project plans to add some overhead signs on the Beltway's outer loop to provide additional guidance for drivers facing the lane shrinks and splits in the work zone. But midday drivers also will face some new construction issues there from today through Thursday. The outer loop near the Eisenhower Avenue Connector will be reduced to two lanes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Thursday for work on the Beltway widening in that area. Through September, the new normal in that area is this: The outer loop approaching the temporarily-closed connector consists of three travel lanes. The two on the left go straight through. The one on the right is a little weird. It's formed by using the connector's ramps. Nothing bad will happen to Beltway drivers by using that...
