Git Along Cowgirl

Just in time for picnic season, Cowgirl Creamery will open its doors in the Chinatown area tomorrow with its sumptuous signature cheeses and a variety of gourmet food goods.

Originating in Point Reyes Station, Calif., the Creamery makes its American Cheese Society award-winning cheese from from pure organic milk, and its creations can be found on the menus of some of the Bay Area's best restaurants, including Zuni Cafe, Chez Panisse and Boulevard. The D.C. shop will feature the store's own cheeses, including the Red Hawk, a striking red-orange cheese and the St. Pat, a seasonal spring cheese that is wrapped in stinging nettles.

The Creamery will also stock its own creme fraiche, fromage blanc and cottage cheese, along with other producers' cheeses, charcuteries, breads, and, eventually, wine. The store will have a special tasting bar where I hope to be a regular and I know I won't be alone. With all of the delectable goodness in one spot, the Cowgirls should have locals leaping onto the Creamery bandwagon in no time.

this just about made my summer. i got hooked on cowgirl creamery's goods last summer in SF and now i can have my mt tam and redhawk cheeses in d.c. yippee cai-yai-yay!

does anyone else think that this is a huge move on d.c.'s part in becoming a more foodie-friendly town?

And we SO need a grocery in the least for now we can content ourselves with the Cowgirls' delicious cheese and bread (and wine next door at Central Liquors!)! :)
