Artomatic Watch: Week 4
Meet your favorite artists and rock out to a '90s band that's been stuck in our heads since learning about this upcoming concert -- all this weekend at Artomatic.
Where It All Began: It's almost hard to believe that the PostSecret juggernaut -- blog, book, music video, etc. -- didn't exist until Artomatic 2004. That's when Frank Warren, the man behind the project, started handing out blank postcards to strangers. Even though he's big and famous, he's still keeping true to his AOM roots. A video installation of PostSecret postcards is on view at this year's AOM, and Warren will be signing copies of his books from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Question the Creator: Or just ask the artists. Organizers have requested that all participating artists be in attendance on Friday night, so if you want to know what those Kali houses or the parking meter Bibles are all about, now's the time to ask.
Crystal Rocks: Celebrate Cinco de Mayo Crystal City-style with a free outdoor concert at 7 p.m. right across the street from Artomatic. The Gin Blossoms (remember them?) are headlining and Laura Lea and Tripp Fabulous are also on the bill.
Don't forget about Thursday night tours with participating artists. You can find more events at Artomatic's official site.
