Artomatic Watch: Week 5

Workshops, burlesque opera and artist-led tours are the highlights of the Artomatic events this week.

Rolling Papers: Post critic Michael O'Sullivan gave Elizabeth Morisette's coiled paper baskets a big shout out in his review of Artomatic last week. The artist leads a paper-basket-making workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Participants should bring recycled paper, a stapler and staples, glue, a ruler, pencil and acrylic gel mediums (optional).

The Wild Side of Opera: Performer Shortstaxx gives a burlesque-inspired performance of the opera "Carmen" at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 17.

Tour Masters: Artists lead tours of the Artomatic space every Thursday evening, but next Thursday's guides are really something. At 7:30 p.m. on May 17, glass artist Tim Tate leads a tour of the space. Tate gave me my first tour of Artomatic and his effervescent personality gave the then-empty building some life. Matt Sesow, a friendly and fabulous local artist I've had the pleasure of interviewing a few times, leads a tour at 8:30 p.m.
