Ray's Hell-Burger Opens for Lunch on Fridays

By Julia Beizer

Expect a line. Ray's Hell-Burger is opening for lunch on Fridays. (Leah L. Jones for The Washington Post)

Fans of juicy burgers -- especially those in this Arlington office -- have been hoping for this announcement for weeks, and finally the news is official. Last night, Michael Landrum confirmed that Ray's Hell-Burger will be opening for lunch on Fridays beginning this week. "We're going to be opening up at 11:45, more or less," he said in a voicemail. Expect a line -- judging by our recent completely unscientific poll, this place has some diehard fans.

Other news from the Ray's family: As of last night, Ray's the Classics in Silver Spring began serving the butcher burgers in the lounge and bar areas, although not all the cheeses and toppings from Ray's Hell will be available there. Also at the Classics, you can wash that burger down with beer, wine or a cocktail. That's right: cocktail. The restaurant began serving liquor again last night after a seven-month hiatus.

I enjoy an adult beverage from time to time, but that strikes me as a bit much.

Does that Jolly Roger hanging on the wall mean that you have to order your burger talking like a pirate?

Yeah MEAT! Yeah LIQUOR! Yeah RAY's!

danj--I'm a little curious as to why you think beer and wine are acceptable but a martini or other mixed drink is not. Alcohol is alcohol and as long as it is only being served to those over 21, why does it make a difference?

Dublin, I think danj's point is that you're washing down beer with more beverage. I think the writers meant "wash down that burger with..."

I tried this place out a while ago..just got the regular burger w/ grilled onions and mushrooms.

Overall, pretty damn good, but I don't know how much different it really is than a burger at any other restaurant.

"I think the writers meant 'wash down that burger with...'"

I absolutely did. It has been corrected. Apologies for the misunderstanding.
